WATCH FOB – BRAUNSCHWEIG
This is an interesting watch fob from the Duchy of Braunschweig. The 1.5″ wide x 3.25″ long watch fob’s ribbon is made of black silk, with a device at the top that allows the fob to be attached to a watch chain. A metal piece displaying the owner’s name hangs below, followed by a larger metal centerpiece. The watch fob’s centerpiece features a Coat-of-Arms on a shield flanked by lions. Rather unexpectedly, the shield is topped by an owl with his wings spread wide! This entire affair is contained within what appears to be a horseshoe. [Horseshoes were (and are) commonly used as good luck signs in Germany, as well as in the United States]. The horseshoe’s edge mentions Braunschweig. Two more engraved (with the years “1904/5″) metal pieces appear below the watch fob’s central device.
This Braunschweig watch fob will make a fine addition to any collection.
