This is the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz’s Iron Cross 2nd Class equivalent. Its official name is “Kreuz für Auszeichnung im Kriege.” [This very small Grand Duchy was a neighbor to the far larger Mecklenburg-Schwerin. It was so small that it was not able to field a regiment of its own. It had a single Bataillon in one infantry regiment and one battery in an artillery regiment]. The decoration is silver-toned. Its obverse displays the Grand Duke’s crowned royal cypher, along with the date, 1914. On the reverse is the motto “Tapfer und Treu” (Valiant and Faithful). The correct ribbon for a non combatant is attached.
