Vivat ribbons were patriotic silk ribbons that were sold for the benefit of the German Red Cross. They measured 15 3/4″ x 2 ½” and had scenes that saluted the German royalty and military during WW I. Most that I have seen were produced during the early to mid years of the war. This example is for the Auxiliary Cruiser S. M. S. Ayesha. This vessel was a sailing ship. Along with the S. M. S. Seeadler, it was famous for exploits raiding allied merchant ships during WW I. This is a very desirable naval Vivat ribbon.
