This is a Silver Service Medal from the Grand Duchy of Baden. It is a late-war example. The medal features the likeness of Friedrich II (1857-1928), Baden’s last Grand Duke. The medal is interesting due to its slotted attachment at the top where the ribbon is inserted, rather than a conventional jump ring. It includes its original paper award packet, which is very scarce. A small piece of ribbon is also included.
As this was Baden’s equivalent of the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class, it makes a very fine display item. This is the first time that we have offered you the paper award packet. Generally these were tossed away after the award was received.
