This postcard shows Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst (1876-1923) of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar. He served as the small Grand Duchy’s ruler beginning in 1901, after his grandfather’s death. He was an unpopular ruler. Both his abdication and death brought joy to Saxe-Weimar. In this photograph he is seen in profile, wearing a general’s dress uniform. He is wearing a neck order, a four-place medal bar, and two breast stars. The postcard was not mailed.
