Wood handled metal stamps were very popular during the Imperial German period. These were the forerunners of rubber stamps and allowed the individual to stamp his initials, cypher, etc. on letters, etc. by using an ink pad. Even today you can use these on paper. This example has a person’s name and an anchor etched in reverse on the metal stamping portion. Attached is a wooden handle. These are fun to use, display, or have on your desk.
