This is a wonderful pair of decorations for an Austrian officer. They come in a deluxe, specially-fitted case. The first decoration is the Austrian Ear Medal for 1873. The circular medal’s obverse, which measures 1 1/2″ in diameter, has a likeness of Austria’s Franz Joseph I. The decoration’s reverse has the date 2. December 1873. The decoration is bronze. It is attached to a black and yellow ribbon in the typical Austrian trifold style. The second medal is the Austrian Officer’s Long Service Medal for twenty-five years of service. The decoration consists of a brass cross that measures 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4.” In the center is a silver, two-headed eagle with the Hapsburg Coat-of-Arms in the center. The decoration’s back is covered in mother-of-pearl. Again, the decoration sports a black and yellow, trifold ribbon. The presentation case measures 4 1/4″ x 5″ x 3/4.” It has a pebbled brown exterior. Inside the case, the upper lid is lined with white silk. A sticker for the firm Moritz Kuttig in Vienna appears on the upper lid. The case’s lower half is an upraised velvet platform that is cut out for the two medals. It is a handsome presentation for the two decorations.
