OLDENBURG – FRIEDRICH AUGUST COMBATANTS CROSS – 2nd CLASS
Oldenburg was a small Imperial German Grand Duchy. Our offering today is its Friedrich August Combatant’s Cross 2nd Class. The gilt-toned cross measures 1.5” x 1.5.” Its obverse displays the legend “Für Treue Dienst,” Friedrich August’s crowned royal cypher, and the date, 1914. It is Oldenburg’s 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class equivalent. Its reverse is plain. The Combatant’s ribbon features two narrow blue stripes and one wide red stripe. The decoration is in very fine condition. As it was a smaller state, the decoration was awarded in smaller numbers to its native sons, as well as other German and Austrian allies.
