This is the 1st Class Long Service Award for Twenty-one Years of Service. The example is for enlisted man and NCO’s from the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The decoration is a cross with a gilt finish to its arms that has diminished with age. It has a brighter gilt-center. The cross’s obverse features the Grand Duke’s crowned cypher. The decoration’s reverse displays twenty-one in Roman numerals, which was quite common on German long-service awards. This particular decoration was awarded from 1868 to 1913. It is in very fine condition, with a magenta, blue, and yellow ribbon.
