This is a militärpaß from Deutsch Ordens Infanterie-Regiment Nr 152. The regiment was founded in 1897 and garrisoned at Marienburg and Stuhm. It was assigned to the XX. ArmeeKorps. The soldier’s last name was “Ehlert.” He was born in 1893, and entered the army in October 1913. He was awarded the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class on 3 March 1915. It was a fairly early award, so Herr Ehlert really must have accomplished something important. His regiment saw extensive service on the Eastern Front, including the Battle of Tannenburg. One page shows the various battles in which the regiment. I see a unit stamp where he was still serving with the regiment in 1917. I see further notations where he was mustered out of the army in 1919. He was a lucky man to survive more than four years of war and return home.
