Hanseatic Crosses were issued for the three Hanseatic Free States of Hamburg, Lübeck, and Bremen. This example hails from Hamburg. It represents the city/state’s equivalent to the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class. It measures 1 ½” x 1 .” The decoration’s center depicts Hamburg’s City Hall in red and silver enamel. The structure was destroyed during WW II’s allied bombing. After the war, it was restored to its condition from before the war.
The decoration features red enamel arms, one of which has suffered a large chip. The decoration has NO ribbon. The price at which it is offered reflects its damage and lack of ribbon.
