This is a consignment item. It is the Ehrenzeichen für Verdiensts um die Republik die Österreich (Honor Badge for Service Within the Republic of Austria). It is a post WW II decoration first authorized in 1952. The single-sided decoration sports a large red enameled cross with a white cross interior. A large eagle with the shields of various Austrian locations is mounted at the top. The decoration is attached to an orange and white tri-fold ribbon.
It comes housed in a traditional Austrian presentation case with a rounded lower portion. The leather case is red with a gold embossed reproduction of a large eagle on top. The case’s upper half features the jeweler who produced it’s name: Vienna’s Anton Reitterer. Two smaller miniatures and a stickpin are also included. This is a high quality presentation in top condition.
