This is a color postcard of Bavaria’s Prinz Regent Luitpold (1821-1912). Luitpold succeeded Ludwig II in 1886 when Ludwig II was removed from power and then mysteriously drowned while walking beside a lake. Luitpold held titular control over Bavaria from 1886-1912. The postcard shows Luitpold in a generaloberst’s uniform. Below him we see the Wittelsbach Crown and a Bavarian Lion holding a shield in his paws sporting the sky-blue and white Bavarian colors. The postcard was mailed in 1901 to a woman in Brooklyn, NY. The message is on the obverse at the bottom of the postcard. Only the address appears on the reverse.
