JEWELRY BOX – REPRESENTING THE GARDE du CORPS

    SKU: 03-81

    $550.00 $495.00

JEWELRY BOX – REPRESENTING THE GARDE du CORPS This is a jewelry box in the shape of an officer’s visor cap from the Regiment des Garde du Corps (GdC). [They were the Prussian Army’s leading cavalry regiment. When the Kaiser was out in public, a group of them always accompanied him. One generally saw an NCO in full-parade-gear (including the Hohenzollern-Eagle-topped helmet), standing near the Kaiser, brandishing the emperor’s personal standard]. This charming jewelry box is faithful in detail to its larger counterpart. It sports a black visor, the wide, lower red trim band, and the narrow band of red piping encircling its top. The rest of the “cap” is white. The case’s top exhibits some soiling from age (it IS nearly 100-years-old). One kokarde is present. The spot for the second is filled by the button that opens the box. Inside, the box’s bottom surface appears to be leather. The upper half sports a white silk liner, which has embossed on it in gold, “Zur Erinnerung an den Weltkrieg 1914 Gesetzl. Gesch.” The box’s top (the cap’s cover) measures 2 1/2″ in diameter. The entire box measures 1″ in height. This is a marvelous little item. Only your imagination will limit what you can do with it!

    SKU: 03-36

PATRIOTIC BOX – fun little boxes for which the Germans were famous This is a very well-made and unusual oval-shaped box. It appears to be made of zinc and measures 4 1/8″ x 2 ½” x 1 1/8″. It is double-hinged. As we open the lid, we find that the box is lined in either a coarse gray silk or possibly cotton. The top of the lid has a fancy design with a 1914 Iron Cross in the center. Four roses are at compass points outside the frame that surround the EK. The outer ring of the box features a series of small frames that have nothing displayed in them. However, they add an interesting decorative design. This is one of those fun little boxes for which the Germans were famous. Let your imagination lead you to whatever treasures you want to place inside it. Better yet, why not give it to a special someone?

PATRIOTIC PIN – ENAMELED IRON CROSS ON ORIGINAL SALES CARD

    SKU: 17-288

    $175.00

This is a fairly standard patriotic pin featuring a black enamel Iron Cross with gold trim. What really makes this piece stand out, besides its condition, is that it comes on its original sales card. This is the same card on which it was produced 85 years ago! The card features a crossed national flag and a kriegsflagge in one of its corners. When I am fortunate enough to find something like this, I am always quite pleased. Besides helping to maintain the condition of a piece, it gives us a glimpse of the manner in which patriotic Germans purchased such items. Quite rare!

    SKU: 32-98

    $295.00

This is a superb patriotic pin that most likely was worn by a lady whose husband or sweetheart served in 2. Leib-Husaren-Regiment Königin Victoria von Preußen Nr 2. It was one of the two Prussian “Death’s Head” regiments. Prinzessin Viktoria Luise rode with this regiment as an à la Suite officer, while her brother Kronprinz Wilhelm was known for his association with 1. Leib-Husaren-Regiment Nr 1. This very high-quality, gilt-toned, pinback piece measures 1 ½” x 2.” It has the crowned cypher “V.” The pin is in excellent condition.

PATRIOTIC PIN – OVAL WITH IRON CROSS AND FLORAL MOTIF

    SKU: 17-298

    $150.00

This patriotic pin, which is oval-shaped, is really quite delicate. It is one of my favorite varieties of patriotic pins. The multicolored enamel design looks like gaily colored pressed flowers (there are seven of them of different colors and sizes) on the left side of the pin. On the right side is a 1914 Iron Cross. All of this is then under glass, which in some ways makes it look like a very fancy paper weight. This is just so delicate! I can remember only coming across this type once or twice in the past. I believe the glass on one was damaged. This one is stunning. It would make a wonderful gift for a special someone!

    PATRIOTIC PIN – SOLDIER’S PHOTOGRAPH

    $95.00

This is one of the ever-popular patriotic pins that features a soldier’s photograph within a metal frame. The pin’s frame is silver-toned with a design engraved into it. The pin measures 1″ x 1″. A silver-toned housing encloses the photograph. It depicts a young man wearing a feldgrau uniform and mütze. From the shading on the mütze’s wide band, I believe he was in the infantry. The pin for attaching the piece to a garment is in place. These patriotic pins were very popular with wives, sweethearts, mothers, sisters, etc. It is in very fine condition.

  • PATRIOTIC PIN - TRENCH ART - IRON CROSS - .800 SILVER HALLMARK

PATRIOTIC PIN – TRENCH ART – IRON CROSS – .800 SILVER HALLMARK

    SKU: 32-182

    $125.00

This is an early war patriotic pin with an Iron Cross that is also something of a trench art piece. The brass pin is constructed from a piece of an artillery shell driving band. These expended driving bands frequently were converted into various patriotic pieces by soldiers with extra time on their hands. The driving band piece measures ½” x 1.” An inch-long branch of oak leaves decorates its face. A fully-functioning pin on the band’s reverse allows it to be attached to a garment. Hanging down from the band is a marvelous, highly-detailed miniature 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class (including EVERY feature found on full-sized Iron Crosses). It measures ⅜” x ⅜.” If you carefully examine the attached photos, you will note that the Iron Cross is vaulted! Its reverse reveals an .800 silver hallmark. The silver hallmark tells us that this piece is an early-to-mid-war production (1914 to 1916). As the war continued, silver became less and less available for personal items such as this. Imagine its wearer’s pride more than one-hundred-years ago when she pinned this on to show her patriotism toward the Fatherland. It is an outstanding piece whose quality is as high as we have offered.

  • PATRIOTIC PIN FEATURING HERZOG ERNST AUGUST AND HERZOGIN VIKTORIA LUISE - BRAUNSCHWEIG - Imperial German Military Antiques Sale

PATRIOTIC PIN FEATURING HERZOG ERNST AUGUST AND HERZOGIN VIKTORIA LUISE – BRAUNSCHWEIG

    SKU: 32-111

    $250.00

This patriotic pin commemorates the 1913 wedding of Braunschweig’s Duke Ernst August (1887-1953) to Prussia’s Princess Viktoria Luise (1892-1980). “Vikki Lu,” as she was known in Germany, was Kaiser Wilhelm II’s only daughter. The marriage resolved some long-standing resentment that hailed back to when Prussia “absorbed” Hannover and Braunschweig after the latter’s defeat during the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. After the young couple’s marriage, control of Braunschweig was returned to Ernst August. He and his young bride then repaired to Braunschweig, where she was much beloved by the people. According to all accounts, theirs was a happy marriage, and far more successful for the young princess than many of her brothers marriages. The pin, which measures 1 1/4″ in diameter, is silver-toned. The obverse shows the royal couple in high-relief. He appears in his Husaren-Regiment Nr 17 uniform. Their names are listed on the obverse. The reverse displays a crown with rays of light emanating from it, shining down on “Zum Andenken An Die Thronbesteigung Des Herzogpaares 1913” (To commemorate the accession of the Duke and Duchess 1913). A pin and catch also are attached to the reverse. The patriotic pin is in excellent condition for being nearly one-hundred-years old.

PATRIOTIC PIN MADE OF SMALL DENOMINATION GERMAN COINS

    SKU: 32-170

    $95.00

This is an interesting patriotic pin made from small denomination German coins. Eight coins are laid edge to edge to form a dome, with one slightly larger coin laid on top. A pin on the reverse allows it to be attached to the wearer’s garment. I have never seen a pin quite like it. All of the coins date from the 1860’s. It is well-made, simply marvelous and very showy. It would look fantastic on someone’s lapel, how about you?

    SKU: 32-161

    $75.00

WW I’s early years featured a lot of patriotic representation of Germany and Austria’s alliance. In this case, we have a very finely-made, early-war patriotic pin. The circular, gold-toned, mini badge is attached to a pin and measures 1 ½” in diameter. A wreath of oak leaves encircles it. Facing each other in the badge’s center are the Austrian and German Kaisers. At the badge’s top is a Hohenzollern Crown, with “1914” directly beneath it. At the very bottom is a 1914 Iron Cross. The badge is in excellent condition.

    PATRIOTIC PINS – IRON CROSS

    SKU: 17-423

    $275.00

I was really taken by this dazzling pair of Iron Cross patriotic pins. I will describe them individually. You may purchase them together or separately, as you prefer. The first of the two pins is circular and measures 1 1/4″ in diameter. The frame is filigreed and silver-toned, although not actually silver. The center of the pin is constructed of two pieces that have been attached. The lower portion is a handsome, dark-blue, rounded and vaulted porcelain bisque. Attached to that is a stunning white, vaulted Iron Cross trimmed in black. This pin is impeccably made and of the highest caliber. This second pin is identical to the first in every respect, except that the bisque centerpiece is hand painted in a sumptuous burgundy. The condition of this example is equal to the blue piece. Both are ravishingly ornate and splendid. You may purchase either of these lovely patriotic pins for $150.00 a piece, or the pair for $250.00 (contact us at 01-727-233-6173 for details)
