Framed Photographs
This is an amazing photograph in a high-quality patriotic frame. The frame measures 5 1/8" x 3 1/8." The image within the frame measures 3 1/4" x2 1/4." The photograph shows a man who appears to be in his 40's. He is wearing an Iron Cross boutonniere in his buttonhole. Now what is especially interesting is that it appears that oak leaves are directly above the Iron Cross. If this is correct, then this would be for an 1870 Iron Cross 2nd Class with the Twenty-Five Year Oak Leaves. I do not necessarily think the photograph was taken during the war years. The frame is beautifully manufactured. It is elaborately made. At the very top is a 1914 Iron Cross surrounded by oak leaves. A swing away easel is attached to the frame’s back, which allows display of both photo and frame. A manufacturer’s hallmarking appears on the frame’s lower edge. $250.00
40-45 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - DELUXE PATRIOTIC FRAME.
12-400 PAIR OF FRAMED CABINET PHOTOGRAPHS FOR THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF BRAUNSCHWEIG. This a pair of framed, colorized cabinet photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Braunschweig. The Duke was Ernst August. He is seen in his dress attila, complete with busby, from Husaren-Regiment Nr 17. His wife, the Duchess, is seen in an elaborate dress and wearing a crown. The Duchess of Braunschweig was, in fact, Kaiser Wilhelm IIs only daughter. You may remember that Braunschweig and the Kingdom of Hannover were annexed by Prussia in 1866. This was after the war against the Austrians, where Braunschweig and Hannover fought against Prussia and paid the price. While Hannover was never to be a state again and its military was fully under the control of Prussia, Braunschweig was given vassal-state status once Ernst August married Wilhelm IIs daughter. These two portraits measure 5" x 3 3/4" framed. The frames are only about one half inch thick, so the images comprise the greater part of the whole. Each of the portraits has a string hanger. Both are very handsome. $295.00 .
38-63 FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH - PRINCESS CECILIE AND HER DAUGHTER. Princess Cecilie was one of the most popular of the royals in Germany. She was a princess from Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and was later married to Wilhelm, Kronprinz of Germany, the oldest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II. She was very involved in relief efforts in Germany, both before and during WW I. She was an attractive woman. The people of Germany took her to their hearts, as she was very good with people and quite photogenic. This period-framed piece shows her with her baby, the Princess Alexandrine. The frame is gilt and measures 12 1/2" x 9 1/2." The photograph measures 6" x 6 1/4." A dedication in pencil is on the photograph, advising the cause that the proceeds of the photograph would benefit. It is in wonderful condition, and ready to hang on your wall. $195.00
38-25 FRAMED LARGE-FORMAT PHOTOGRAPH - S. M. TORPEDOBOOT D-161. This is an original, period, large-format photograph of S. M. Torpedoboot 161. The photo was period-framed. It measures 8 1/2" x 11." While the frame is complete, it does have chunks missing from the molding. The interior photo measures 12 3/4" x 17." It shows the boat docked with at least three other torpedoboots, while a couple of other boats are moving around the harbor. The photo is double-matted. The name of the ship is clearly identified on the outer matte. $125.00
38-261 FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH - SEVEN TORPEDOBOOTS. This is a high-quality, framed photograph of seven Torpedoboots tied up beside each other out in a channel. Among them I can see the S-11, S-7, S-13, and four others that are difficult to make out. The photo was taken in 1898. The measures 6" x 9." The matted photograph measures 7 3/4" x 9 3/4."$95.00
13-443 LARGE FRAMED PORTRAIT OF SAILOR. This is a period-framed portrait of an enlisted sailor. The frame measures 19 ½" x 15." It is quite ornate, with a black molding infused with gold scroll work. The image measures 11" x 8 3/4." It shows the sailor standing in his pea coat, wearing a mutze that says "Kaiserliche Marine." This is ready to display on your wall. [$20.00 shipping required for domestic shipping on this item]. $150.00
This is a framed studio photograph of a young NCO attached to an aviation unit. He is holding a sword with portopee, and his visor cap. His shoulder straps clearly identify him for being in an aviation unit. The brown wood, period-framed presentation measures 12" x 9." A fastener is on the back of the frame, so this is ready to hang and enjoy. The young soldier’s photo measures 6" x 3," within the frame. The photographer’s name, address, and even his telephone number are noted on the matting. The photographer was located in Köln (Cologne). $110.00
16-192 FRAMED STUDIO PORTRAIT - NCO - AVIATION UNIT.
16-136 FRAMED COLOR ILLUSTRATION OF AND POEM TO OSWALD BOELCKE. This is a touching memorial poem to the "Father" of German aviation tactics, Oswald Boelcke. Boelcke was an amazing aviator who, at the time of his death in October 1916, had forty confirmed victories to his credit, and more than triple the kills of his closest pursuer. With the victories he had to his credit, and with the better quality planes that were starting to reach service, had he not perished in the collision, HOW many victories could he have claimed? Think of "Bloody April" in 1917, where many of the pilots in Jasta 11 shot down 15 to 25 planes in a single month! This framed presentation is in a modern frame, which measures 14 1/4" x 11 1/4," with a light, wooden molding. Framed within is a colorized picture of Boelcke in his helmet, with his goggles on his forehead. Below is a very popular memorial poem. The page, which appears to have been removed from a book (I see what I believe is a page number), measures 11 ½" x 8 ½." $50.00 .
40-10 PERIOD FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH - LEHR-INFANTRIE-BATTALION - POTSDAM. This is a wonderful photograph of the Lehr-Infantrie-Battalion on parade. The Lehr-Infantrie-Battalion was created in 1820 during the reign of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. It was a special training unit which while a complete and separate battalion was attached to 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß in 1895. So as a matter of course, 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß had four battalions instead of the more typical three of an infantry regiment. Thus the Lehr-Battalion was actually garrisoned in Potsdam and would have been assigned to the GardeKorps. It was used for special training and tactics which might then be used in the German army and to ensure conformity to the drilling and training throughout the German army. It was quite elite and was often seen at functions that included the Kaiser. It was a great honor to be assigned to the battalion. Here, it is seen at the Neuen Palis (built during the reign of King Frederick the Great) of Kaiser Wilhelm II in Potsdam. The framed photograph measures 15 1/2" x 18 1/2," while the photograph contained therein measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2." The photo was taken by a house photographer. The firm was appointed by Imperial decree to take official photographs of the Kaiser and his family. The arrangement would have been similar to the court or house jewelers such as Godet & Sohn, Wagner & Sohn, etc. The large photo was taken 5 June 1911. Both the photograph and the frame are very high quality. I suspect that this hung in the home of one of the battalion members with great pride. Buy this photograph and the photograph below and receive a 10% discount on the pair! Special handling and shipping will be required on this piece due to its size.] $125.00
40-11 PERIOD FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH - LEHR-INFANTRIE-BATTALION - POTSDAM. This is a wonderful photograph of the Lehr-Infantrie-Battalion on parade. The arrangement would have been similar to the court or house jewelers such as Godet & Sohn, Wagner & Sohn, etc. This large photo was taken 31 May 1911. Both the photograph and the frame are very high quality. I would suspect that this hung in the home of one of the battalion members with great pride. 40-12 FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH - NCO HUSSAR (IN A FELDGRAU UNIFORM) AND FAMILY. This is a simple, period-framed photograph of a Senior NCO Hussar and his family. The man is also a musician. He can be seen wearing a feldgrau attila to which a musician’s swallows nests are attached. While I cannot be certain, I believe this man was a member of Husaren-Regiment Fürst Blücher von Wahlstatt (Pommersches) Nr 5. The regiment was initially formed in 1758. It was garrisoned at Stolp, where it was attached to the XVII. ArmeeKorps. The regiment was named in honor of the great Prussian hero of Waterloo who Generalfeldmarschall von Blücher, along with the Duke of Wellington, delivered the knockout blow to Napoleon, ending his dreams of European domination once and for all. Without the arrival of the Prussian Army at Waterloo, Wellington was on the verge of defeat. The arrival of fresh and well-led Prussian troops changed the course of history. The photograph of this man shows him wearing an NCO’s visor cap, a holster with pistol, and a sword. His wife is seated and his young son is dressed in the overcoat and visor cap of a Hussar, just like his papa. This is typical of the "Kinder" tradition of young sons dressing like their fathers. Uniforms, headdress, swords, etc. were all a part of this tradition. The massive, framed presentation measures 15" x 11." The matted photograph in the frame measures 26 1/2" x 22 1/2." This is a poignant presentation of a young family either just before the war began or perhaps even shortly after it started. [Special handling and shipping will be required on this piece due to its size.] $250.00
38-01 FRAMED COLOR LITHOGRAPH - GENERALFELDMARSCHALL PAUL von HINDENBURG. This is a period-framed color lithograph of Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg. It is in the style that was displayed in government offices while he was President of the Weimar Republic. He is depicted in a late-war pose. Hindenburg is wearing all of his medals and decorations, including the Pour le Merite with Oak Leaves, the1914 Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, etc. In one hand he grips his interim generalfeldmarschall’s baton, while the other holds a sword with a Garde Star on the grip. The piece is attractively done, and ready to hang on your wall. $375.00
12-428 FRAMED SOLDIER’S FAMILY PHOTO. This is a postcard-sized original photograph of a family or families of females and soldiers. It is enclosed in a patriotic frame embroidered in Germany’s national colors of red, black and white. The frame measures 4 ½" x 6 ½." Three young women and one older woman, who may be the mother of the four soldiers, are in the photo. One of the younger women has a small girl sitting on her lap. The photo is dated 1916. Seated in the center is an NCO, who appears to be the eldest. He is wearing a 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class in his buttonhole and a large ribbon bar on his tunic. He is also holding TWO canes, so he was severely wounded. This is an interesting study of a family pausing in the midst of war. $60.00
12-385 MINIATURE FRAMED MOURNING PHOTO OF A SOLDIER. Here we have a small black frame measuring 3 1/8" x 2 5/8." Frames like this were used as mourning pieces to house the photos of soldiers who died in their countrys service. A small silver Iron Cross is embossed on the bottom of the frame. Inside the frame is a photo of a young NCO. A piece of the glass is missing in the frames upper left corner. As always, such pieces are heartbreakingly touching. $55.00
10-386 FRAMED STUDIO POSE OF A PRE WAR GERMAN SOLDIER. A very nice pre-WW I studio photo of a young soldier dressed in uniform with sword and portopee. Seated beside him is an older man who could well be his father. The studio background is complete with castle! Has a period frame complete with hanger ready to go up on your wall. $75.00
12-255 FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH OF A YOUNG GIRL. A most interesting framed photograph of a young girl (I would estimate her to be 8-12 years old.). I rather get the impression that she has just attended her 1st Communion as she is wearing a long white dress and is wearing a crucifix and appears to be holding a pocket bible. The frame has a bark finish to it and has a 1914 Iron Cross at the bottom. The frame measures about 3" x 5 ½". The photo appears to be from about 1914-1930 but the frame is actually post WW II as it is marked :Made in W. Germany." Very touching as it is or another photo could be substituted if you prefer. $45.00

Imperial German Air Service
14-202 PHOTO ALBUM WHICH HAS PHOTOS OF POINTS OF INTEREST IN GERMANY AND SOME AVIATION RELATED PHOTOS. This is a very nice small format album which has thirty-eight photos from the period of November-December 1917. The album begins with several shots of interesting points within Germany. Most of these shots are very neatly captioned in white ink. As the album develops, we begin to see photos of planes and aviation personnel. We see photos of the planes at the airfields, in flight, and even crashed planes. Several of the pages of the album are blank. A very nice starter album with enough aviation material and personality shots to keep you interested. $395.00

38-342 TWO-PHOTO ALBUM SET - HUSAREN-REGIMENT. This is an amazing two-photo album set for a man who served in a Husaren-Regiment. While it has photos of many officers and men from a variety of Husaren-Regiments, the fellow who compiled these two first-rate photo albums was a member of Husaren-Regiment Königin Wilhelmina der Niederlande (Hannoversches) Nr. 15. Although nominally a Prussian regiment, it originally had been Hanoverian. It was assimilated into the Prussian Army as an outcome of the 1866 war between Prussia and Saxony. It was a very elite regiment. They wore bandeaux on their busbies for their battle honors achieved at (left to right) Peninsula, Waterloo, El Bodon, and Barossa. The regiment was founded in 1803. It was garrisoned at Wandsbek, where it was assigned to the IX. Armeekorps. The two photo albums cover a period in this man’s life from 1897 to 1959! The first volume contains 108 photos. Many photos are of the officers and men from several different Husaren-Regiments. Many of the officers are identified in the photos, however, they are not identified by regiment. One could spend time identifying these regiments and officers by using 1897-1905 Rangelistes. One could also spend time identifying the men’s uniforms. Many photos show the men in their daily lives, i.e., in the stables, working with their horses. This is great stuff! Photos of parades and other activities are included. This is all pre WW I material. It does NOT show Husaren troops during the Great War. This photo includes several photos from the 1935-1940 period. One can see the influence of the Third Reich, and the tradition of Husaren troops. It is all very interesting. The second volume has a total of 86 photos. They again comprise many different sizes. Several are large enough to take an entire page of their own. Three photos in particular stand out. The first is a photo of Graf Ferdinand von Zeppelin, with a number of Husaren around him. The other two are large-format photographs, each measuring 5 1/2" x 8 3/4." They depict Kaiser Parades that were held during 1911 in Hamburg and in Altoona. In both of these photographs (professionally taken) large numbers of Husaren are seen on parade with the Kaiser, while many of his senior officers look on. Further on in the album are photos from the 1920's, as well as many photos from the 1930's Third Reich-era. Then come photos of veteran groups from 1955 through 1959, as their ranks dwindle. These are amazing photos. You will have hours to enjoy and savor them as you pick out more and more interesting details. $2,995.00
10-271 PHOTO ALBUM TO A MEMBER OF THE 1st KOMPAGNIE OF THE GARDE-SCHUTZEN-BATTALION. This is a marvelous oversized album to a man ( who served in the Garde-Schutzen Battalion from 1905-1907. The quality of pre WW I albums like these far exceed war time examples. The cover of the album which measures 14 ½" x 11 ½" is very decorative and ornate. It has a Royal Cypher, a colored regimental standard, and " I. Comp. 1905-1907. Inside the album on the title page is the name of the man, Heinrich Warch) and the basic information on his service. This album was professionally produced and a photograph of him. Inside the album are professional taken photographs of the Officers and Men of the Company. There are a total of twenty three high quality photos (these were not taken by an amateur photographer with a Brownie) within the album but most are of a larger format and are on a page of their own. These larger photos measure 6" x 8" and each are matted on the page to properly frame them. There are several photographs of the men in training and at ease together. The photographs of the Officers are particularly interesting as they represent tremendous uniform studies of what was worn in a Garde-Schutzen organization. This unit was a very elite Battalion that was sponsored by the Hohenzollern household and it was a tremendous honor to serve in it. Included with the album is a document which has the unit rubber stamp on it. It is signed by a Hauptmann who was the Company Commander who states that Warch served well and faithfully since he entered the Company from 1905-1907. It further states that Warch was born in 1886. The binding is a bit loose on the album but with reasonable care the album will offer hours of pleasure. The images are in excellent condition (except for the one photo of Warch which could be in better condition. I dont often buy photo albums but this one struck me for the quality and the uniqueness of the Company that it represented. $395.00
38-179 PHOTO ALBUM - TELEGRAPH-RADIO ABTEILUNG. This is a photo album for a man who served in a Radio-Telegraph Abteilung during the period of 1908-1909. A total of seventy photographs is in this album. Each of the photos has a written description under it. A fascinating array of photos is in the album. All of the images are original photos of varying sizes, with NO postcards. Individual and group photos of the men who served in the unit are included. One interesting photo appears to be a classroom with a very large radio in it. The photos of the men include enlisted men, NCO’s, and One-Year-Volunteers. Some Christmas photos appear from 1908. Even three photos of early zeppelins from the 1908-09 period show up. $350.00
12-289 TWO SMALL PHOTO ALBUMS WITH MINI 1914 IRON CROSSES. A fine pair of small photo albums, each displaying a small Iron Cross 2nd Class on the front cover. The larger of the two measures 5 ½ " x 4 1/4" and has eleven photos, mostly of officers in an informal setting. The smaller of the two measures 3 5/8" X 3 1/4" and has a total of twelve photos. Again they are informal photos of officers. The owner of the albums was Hubert Promnitz. He retired from the Army as an Oberstleutnant. While the content of the albums is not astounding, the albums themselves are really quite unique and interesting. $195.00.

LARGE FORMAT PHOTOGRAPH - LUFTSCHIFFER-ABTEILUNG Nr 1. - 1911.
This is a large-format photograph showing several members of
Luftschiffer-Abteilung Nr 1. It is a professionally-taken photograph,
dated Berlin 1911. The photograph measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/4," while the
overall matted product measures 14" x 16 1/2." Early Luftschiffer
material like this is very hard-to-find.

40-28 MATTED PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPH - KAISER WILHELM II.
38-199
LARGE COLORIZED CABINET PHOTOGRAPH - KAISER WILHELM II AND HIS FAMILY.
20-144 PORTRAIT
CABINET PHOTOGRAPH - KAISER WILHELM I AT VARIOUS
AGES.
This is an unusual, high-quality, cabinet
photograph of Kaiser Wilhelm I. It shows him at eight different ages, from
seven to eighty-nine years of age. This very handsome portrait photograph
measures a large 6 1/2" x 4 1/2." It does a marvelous job of showing the young Prince,
and at later times in his life, when Prinz Regent, King, and Kaiser. It was
produced by a very well known photographic studio, with offices in Hamburg,
Eisenach, and Berlin.

40-01 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN’S GRAND DUKE FRIEDRICH FRANZ IV REVIEWING HIS TROOPS. This is an original photograph showing Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin reviewing his troops. This is dated November 1915. On the front of the enlisted men’s pickelhaube covers (all the men are wearing pickelhauben) is "L 78," which stands for Landwehr-Regiment Nr 76. $20.00
20-149 PHOTOGRAPH AND GLASS NEGATIVE - KAISER WILHELM II. This is an interesting original photograph and glass negative of Kaiser Wilhelm II. While I am not a photographic historian, I believe it was sometime around the turn of the 20th Century when glass negatives gave way to film negatives. (Now that we have digital cameras, negatives themselves are becoming rarer)! The photograph shows the Kaiser in the uniform of a German Army Generalfeldmarschall. He is standing on an estate’s lawn with two older women, and a younger woman accompanied by two very young girls dressed in their Sunday finest. I believe one of the older women is the Empress. While I cannot be certain, I have a hunch from the Kaiser’s age that this photograph may have been taken at Haus Doorn, his exiled home in the Netherlands. It is also possible that the photo was taken in the last year of the war in Germany.

This is an original photograph of a young sailor who served on the S. M. S. Hansa. The photo appears on postcard stock, which was quite common for the time. He can be seen wearing an S. M. S. Hansa cap tally on his mutze. $25.00
38-190 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH -SAILOR - S. M. S. HANSA.
38-184 ORIGINAL GROUP PHOTO - TWENTY-TWO MEN - SEE-BATTALION Nr 1. This is a wonderful group photo of twenty-two men from See Battalion Nr 1. In the group are nineteen enlisted men and two NCO’s. One of the NCO’s is wearing a shooting lanyard. Another is in feldgrau. All others are in prewar blue. All of the enlisted men are armed with Mausers and other leather gear. It is a fine photo, with lots of interesting details. $50.00
This is a very interesting original photograph of a group of sixteen men. In the center is a Petty Officer wearing a shooting lanyard. The others are primarily first-level enlisted men. We can see that they are attached to naval artillery by their cap tallies. A sign in front of them states "Der Weltkrieg 1914." On the reverse is a message from one of the men, and a unit stamp for Feldpost and Naval Artillery. $40.00
38-185 ORIGINAL GROUP PHOTO - SIXTEEN MEN ATTACHED TO NAVAL ARTILLERY.
38-186 ORIGINAL GROUP PHOTO - EIGHT MEN ATTACHED TO NAVAL ARTILLERY. This is an original group photograph of eight men attached to naval artillery. In the back is one man wearing a visor cap who holds the rank of Deck Offizier. This was a senior NCO. The other men are holding Mausers and are carrying full pack and gear. On the reverse is a stamp for a Navy Artillery-Regiment. $40.00
This is just a wonderful group photograph of about 30 men (and one dog). Those of you who enjoy looking for details in photographs will really like this one. Start with the sailors who are pairing their jumpers and mutzes with feldgrau trousers! Have a look at the front row, and you will see five officers and one NCO. You will see a collection of feldgrau uniforms and visor caps. The visor caps have Navy Officers’ badges and are feldgrau. That is rare stuff. It is both difficult and expensive to find one of those today. On the photo’s reverse is a unit stamp for the 3rd Navy Artillery-Regiment. $45.00
38-187 ORIGINAL GROUP PHOTOGRAPH - 30+ MEN ATTACHED TO NAVAL ARTILLERY.
38-156 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - SEVERAL ENLISTED SAILORS
WEARING NAVY LUGERS.

13-436 PHOTOGRAPH OF OFFICER IN FULL-DRESS UNIFORM. This is a photograph of a Navy officer outside of what appears to be his home. He is in complete full-dress uniform, including his frock coat with dress (banjo) shoulder boards, for and aft cap, and Navy Sword with portopee. On the left breast of his frock coat is a medal bar with numerous decorations. This is a fine uniform study in excellent condition. $30.00
13-388 TWO LARGE FORMAT PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE CREW OF THE S. M. S. WOLF. These photographs show the crew of the S. M. S. Wolf. The photographs were removed at some point from a large book (each has the page number on it) and are not originals. Each photo measures 11 3/4" x 9 3/8." The quality of the print is excellent. The first photo shows Admiral Bachmann inspecting the crew, which is drawn up on deck. The second shows the crew with their "hundemeute"(dog pack), who are a lively-looking lot! $60.00 . . .

38-325 SMALL ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF THE DORNIER DO-X. This is a small private photo of the Dornier DO-X Seaplane, which was built by Germany in the 1920's. At the time, it was the largest seaplane in the world. It was a high-wing monoplane, carrying SIX engines with pusher/puller propellers. Friedrich Christiansen, a naval ace and PLM-winner from WW I, was the DO-X’s chief pilot, who gained great attention. Christiansen went on to join the new Luftwaffe and became a general in WW II. He was one of the last PLM-winners to live into the 1960's. The photo measures 2" x 3." It shows a ground crew working on the aircraft at it is tied up to a dock. I know little else about the Dornier DO-X, how successful it really was, or its technical information. Some additional information is penned on the reverse. $10.00
16-196 GRAVE SIDE SERVICE - SOLDIER’S BURIAL. This is an original postcard photograph showing the grave side services for a fallen soldier. The photo is in a cemetery. It features nearly a company of soldiers, who are all wearing their stahlhelms. Some very faint writing shows on the reverse. I acquired this along with a large grouping of aviation-related material, but I cannot say for certain it is for the funeral of a pilot. It is an unusually large collection of soldiers, so it must have been for a fairly well-known figure. $20.00
40-30 SMALL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN BY OBSERVATION PLANE. This small photograph measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/8." It shows a battlefield. If you look carefully, you can see the trenches. They have an arrow drawn in to show the direction that they take. All along in front and behind the trenches you can see shell craters. It really looks like a moonscape! $10.00
This is an original photograph of a German observation plane. The observer can be seen manning the machine gun in the rear compartment. $35.00
40-14 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - GERMAN OBSERVATION PLANE.
16-205 PHOTOGRAPH - SEAPLANE IN HANGER. This is a photograph that has been printed on postcard stock. It shows a seaplane in a hanger that is set on the water. You can see where the plane has been pulled from the water for service in the hanger. Two men are in the plane, while another stands beside the float. They are not in military uniform. Nothing on the reverse describes the scene. $20.00
This small photograph measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/8." It shows a battlefield. If you look carefully, you can see the trenches. They have an arrow drawn in to show the direction that they take. All along in front and behind the trenches you can see shell craters. It really looks like a moonscape! $10.00

16-156 PHOTO POSTCARD SHOWING POST WW I PILOTS AND PLANES.
16-99 PAGE FROM A PHOTO ALBUM THAT SHOWS MEMBERS OF JG 77 FROM POST WORLD WAR II GERMANY. The legend of Manfred von Richthofen has been an important part of the German Air Force since he burst on the scene in 1916. He became more revered after his death in 1918. When the Luftwaffe was formed in the 1930's, a Jagdgeschwader (JG) was named in his honor. The men of this fighter wing proudly wore a cuff title attesting to this fact. There was also a special cuff title for the men who had fought in JG 1 with von Richthofen during WW I. Being a part of the "old guard" was an honor and a distinction, which Hermann Göring wanted to make sure was known to all who saw these men in uniform. When WW II ended, the Luftwaffe and the German military were abolished. It was not until the 1950's, with the perceived threat of the USSR and other members of the Eastern Bloc, that the German military was reestablished. When the German Air Force was reinstituted, it was equipped with U.S. fighter aircraft. Initially, that was the legendary F-86 "Saber Jet," which fought so well in Korea in the early 1950's. When Germany was flying again, it was natural for Manfred von Richthofen to be honored (as he had been in WW I and WW II) by having a JG named for him. This became JG 77, which today is still an important part of the German Air Force. It is still an honor to be attached to this unit. Today, we offer a single page from a photo album that has four original photographs. The first photo shows an F-86 with German markings and a shield with an "R" in it. This tells us, of course, that this plane was attached to JG 77, the von Richthofen JG. In a second photograph, we see an officer giving a briefing. He has on the wings of the Air Force, along with a ribbon bar. A third photo shows two officers at attention. Both were clearly heavily decorated in WW II--one man has two ribbon bars and one has three! The final photo shows two young officers along with a wife or girlfriend making a "repair" to a uniform. I have had this page for quite awhile. I look at it often, appreciating the tradition that the "Rote Kampfflieger" brought to the German Air Force. This man, who flew a plane that was little more than a kite with an engine 85 years ago, is still revered and honored by the young men who follow in his footsteps. $65.00
16-178 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - YOUNG SOLDIER ASSIGNED TO FELD-FLIEGER-ABTEILUNG Nr 22 AND WIFE. This is a fine original studio portrait printed on postcard stock. The photo shows a young NCO attached to Feld-Flieger-Abteilung Nr 22. We can see the patch on his right sleeve and the aviation shoulder straps on his tunic. He is standing with his young wife. A message is on the reverse from either of these two to a friend named "Fanny." The message was written 10 May 1915. $45.00

40-09 CABINET PHOTOGRAPH - YOUNG HUSAREN-REGIMENT TROOPER.
This is a cabinet photograph of a young Husaren-Regiment trooper. The
photograph measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/4." The photographic studio that took the photo is
located in Hamburg. It is highly likely that the trooper belonged to
Husaren-Regiment Kaiser Franz Joseph von Österreich, König von Ungaren
(Schleswig-Holsteinsches) Nr 16. The regiment was garrisoned in nearby
Schleswig. He is wearing an attila and mutze. He is also holding
his sword.

This is a color cabinet photograph of Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg. Hindenburg was a retired general at the beginning of WW I. He was called back to service, then went on to become one of WW I’s best-known German generals. He commanded troops in the East, and was later the commander of all German armies. After WW I, he became the President of the Weimar Republic, whereas he served until his death. The cabinet photograph measures 4 1/2" x 6." It is mounted on a matte that measures 8" x 6 1/4." $50.00
38-232 COLOR CABINET PHOTOGRAPH OF GENERALFELDMARSCHALL PAUL von HINDENBURG WITH REPRODUCTION AUTOGRAPH.
12-455 LARGE FORMAT PHOTOGRAPH - GENERALLEUTNANT ERICH von LUDENDORFF. Here is a large format photograph of Generalleutnant Erich von Ludendorff that measures 6 1/4" x 8 1/2." Von Ludendorff was Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg’s Chief of Staff from when they faced the Russians on the Eastern Front at the Battle of Tannenberg, until von Hindenburg assumed command of the forces in the West. This is von Ludendorff’s most popular shot. It shows him in profile working at his desk. We secured two copies of this photograph. $50.00
40-38 LARGE-FORMAT PHOTOGRAPH - MOUNTED INFANTRY OFFICER. This is a large-format, cardboard-mounted photograph of an infantry officer mounted on his horse. The cardboard measures 6 7/8" x 7 3/16", while the photo itself measures 6 9/16" x 6 3/4." The officer has an EK ribbon in his tunic’s buttonhole, and what looks like a ribbon bar on his left breast. We are unable to ascertain his regiment or rank. He sits his horse well, however, and his steed is quite the handsome brute! $20.00
10-587 PHOTO OF RESERVE der 1. KOMPAGNIE TRAIN-BATTALION Nr 2. This is a large format photograph, which measures 11 3/4" x 7 7/8," of a Kompagnie from Pommersche Train-Battalion Nr 2. This photo is from the period of 1909/1910 and shows the officers, NCO’s and enlisted men of the Kompagnie. This is a great uniform study, as it shows some men wearing mutzes and some men wearing pickelhauben. The officers and NCO’s are wearing visor caps. Have a look at the Kompagnie commander in the center. He has one Daschund sitting on his lap and another at his feet! An extra piece identifies every man in the photo and names the group as "Reserve der 1. Kompagnie Pommerschen Train-Battalions No 2." $50.00
This is an original photograph produced on postcard stock of a group of twenty men from a Garde-Grenadier-Regiment. One NCO and nineteen enlisted men appear. All are in similar uniforms. One of the men in the back is wearing a shooting lanyard, won for shooting proficiency. $20.00
38-125 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - GARDE-GRENADIER-REGIMENT.
38-126 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH- INFANTRIE-DIVISION Nr 23. This is an ORIGINAL photograph that has been produced on postcard stock. It is an early war photograph, and shows an interesting contrast among the uniforms of the nine men depicted. The photograph was sent by Feldpost to a loved one back home. From its stampings, it appears that the men belonged to Infantrie-Regiment Nr 281, which was assigned to Infantrie-Division Nr 23. The date on the reverse is 1912, which I find confusing as this certainly appears to be a wartime pose. $20.00
12-32 STUDIO PORTRAIT. Of soldiers and sailors were very popular during WW I. The smaller versions were referred to as CDVs (Carte de Viste). Often the smaller CDVs, which were about 2" x 3", were printed in larger sizes and then might be enhanced with ink, charcoal, or even colorized. This is a photo of a soldier with his Pickelhaube and his Mauser. It has been enhanced with ink or pencil. The photo is 14" x 18" and the matted image is 17" x 21." Over size shipping required. $125.00
40-02 ORIGINAL MATTED PHOTOGRAPH - MOUNTED OFFICER - MILITARY HEADQUARTERS. This original photograph measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/2," (the size of a postcard). In turn, it is matted on cardboard, measuring 8 1/4" x 6 1/4." It shows a mounted officer in front of a military headquarters. The officer is wearing a schirmutze and a feldgrau uniform. In the background is a pickelhaubed guard, with a rifle at his shoulder, standing in front of a guard box. The officer has autographed and dated (1915-1916) the photograph on the matte. While I cannot totally decipher the name, I do see a "von" in it. The photograph presents a research opportunity for the collector who is so inclined. $30.00
